Artwork Ten Years After 9/11

Last sunday marked the tenth anniversary of the events that occurred on September 11th, 2001.
On September 10th, 2011 the art exhibition titled "Witness - A Look Back To The Future", opened at La Guardia Community College. Displaying the artwork of students, faculty and alumni, each work  emanated the feelings of  the artists during a time when our country was at it's darkest point.

Images of missing employees of the World Trade Center, and loved ones are on display. One of photographs belonged to the artist Michael Richards, who's work is on display. Richards was apart of a artist residency in the WTC, and on September 11th he was one of the unfortunate to pass away.
Are You Down? - A Sculpture by Michael Richards
This sculpture made by the late artist depicts himself as one of the Tuskegee Airmen being hit by the P-39 airplanes flown in World War II. Ironically, Richards made the sculpture before the events on 9/11 occurred.

Also on display are a series of paintings done by Bruce Brooks, a professor at La Guardia Community College. His work can be seen throughout the school. I am fortunate enough to be in his class this semester. Hopefully I will learn a great deal about painting from him, as i have from previous professors.
